Dafningas

The Helsinki-based trio Dafningas represents duality, in many aspects: Reefman is a Dutch-Australian singer-violist, Kivivuori is a Mexican-Finnish gamba player-cellist and Koekoek is a Finnish-Dutch harpsichordist-organist. Their central repertoire is 17th century music from Italy and around the North Sea. Having first met in Helsinki at the Sibelius Academy’s Early Music Faculty, they soon discovered their common interest in the vast repertoire of 17th century divisions, variations and contrafacta based on secular songs and madrigals. Koekoek has been using his 1650 Couchet muselaar in the ensemble’s performances. The ensemble name refers to the immensely frequently ”recomposed” tune When Daphne From Fair Phoebus Did Fly.
